Hospital Radio Perth is a charity run by volunteers. In fact hospital broadcasting is the largest charity group in the United Kingdom without a paid employee. We are always looking for more volunteers. Quite frankly, the more volunteers we have, the better we can make our service to the patients. So what do we look for in a volunteer? Reliability, common sense, friendliness, commitment and a desire to bring a little cheer to those who are feeling low. Perhaps you fit the bill. It might surprise you to know that only about half our members have ever broadcast. Most are ward visitors; people of all ages who enjoy visiting patients and having a chat. In fact every member of Hospital Radio Perth starts as a ward visitor and many remain doing that for many years. That might be what you would like to do. Or it may be that you fancy trying your hand at some other aspect of the organisation, programme presentation, fund-raising, sports commentary or record library work. If that's the case, then we'll make sure that you get plenty training and the opportunity to follow your dream. Several of our members have gone on to work for Radio Tay, the BBC and other stations. Many of today's top TV and radio stars began at their local hospital radio. Many of our members have been with us for a very long time and we have awards for 10 and 15 years service. We hope that you might offer a few hours, one evening a week to help out. We realise that family and work commitments can make a regular evening difficult - but we do our best to work around that too. You'll be joining an award winning team. One where success has come about through the hard work and dedication of the entire membership. It's an opportunity to make new friends and have fun while taking part in a rewarding and worthwhile project. If you are not sure - then why not come along for an evening? We'll give you the guided tour and introduce you to some of our members - you might even meet a patient or two. We'll give you a cup of coffee then persuade you to join us!
We get up to all sorts of nonsense and have a lot of fun along the way. Quiz nights, treasure hunts, dinner dances, pitch and put even 5-a-side football and rounders. It's all down to being part of the team. Unfortunately though we cannot accept volunteers under 18 years of age. We look forward to hearing from you. Contact us via the link below and we'll send out an application pack or arrange a visit to our studios. SEE YOU THEN! |
