The
Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been running for over 50 years, since
its inception as a display of military drill in nearby Princes Street
Gardens.
From
the thrill of the initial fanfare, to the emotion of the lone piper
high on the castle battlements and the skirl of "The Black Bear"
and "We're No' Awa' Tae Bide Awa'" as the massed bands march
off for the last time; few visitors can leave Edinburgh Castle Esplanade
without being aware that they have been witness to one of the world's
greatest spectaculars.
These
days over 250,000 visitors view the event live each year, 6 million
more on British television and over 100 million world-wide. Remarkably,
despite occasional appalling weather, not one show has ever been cancelled.
From
the early 80s to the very latest tattoo, we have all the highlights,
the pipes, drums, military and ceilidh bands and the music and displays
from the Commonwealth and elsewhere.
It's
thirty minutes of marvellous entertainment - so join us at 1400 hrs
each Saturday, lie back and enjoy.
