REQUEST SHOWS

George Rintoul - Thursday RequestsHospital Radio Perth broadcasts request shows each week night from 8.00 to 10.00 pm. The timing is scheduled so that you can tune in just after your visitors leave. But virtually every programme in our schedule will accept your requests - just let us know what you want to hear.

Each evening our members visit the wards seeking requests and dedications. Once they have been to the wards, they return to the studio and help to prepare the programme, looking out the music and deciding on the running order.

Diana MacIntyre on a TuesdayWe appreciate that sometimes it's a struggle trying to think of a piece of music to ask for - but you can be as obscure as you like. Our library holds well over 100,000 different songs and classical pieces, so it's not often that we are beaten.

We've gone to all manner of lengths to ensure that we fulfill a request; it's not unusual for one of our members to go home to pick up a CD from their own collection, just to ensure that the patient hears their favourite piece. On occasion request collectors have even logged on to the web and bought the track from an internet music site!

Request shows are the flagship of hospital radio - we may not be as slick and professional as some of the major stations - but with the best will in the world, their presenters can't visit their listeners a few minutes before the programme; we can - and we do. With thousands of requests each year we have a pretty good idea of the type of music our listeners enjoy.

If you are in hospital, you can dial for a request on the hospital internal phone system - just ring us on extension 13001 and we'll do our best to play it for you.

And if you know someone in hospital - why not ask us to play something for them? Why not pass on your get well messages through Hospital Radio Perth? You can ring us on Perth 643428 or you can email us a message. In fact - if you ring during the programme, you can pass on the message personally and introduce your musical choice live on air!

Of course we get calls from all over the UK, partners, children and grandchildren all want to pass on their best wishes to our listeners. In recent months we've had requests from as far afield as Hong Kong, USA, Australia and New Zealand. One patient's grandson even phoned us live from Alaska. We are only too delighted to pass on your messages.
