AWARDS WE HAVE WON

Mills And Boon

THE MILLS AND BOON AWARDS

In 1989, only a few months after Hospital Radio Perth went on air we were named the Mills and Boon Scottish Station of the Year. This award was all the more special because our listeners had to nominate us. Over a dozen patients wrote to Mills and Boon recommending our service.

BT

THE HOSPITAL BROADCASTING ASSOCIATION AWARDS

For over ten years the annual Hospital Radio Awards were the Oscars of the hospital broadcasting world. Organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association and sponsored by BT, the awards celebrated all that is good in hospital radio. The awards were open to around 300 hospital broadcasting stations around the UK and were presented at a spectacular gala dinner each April. Thanks to our commitment to patient focussed broadcasting, Hospital Radio Perth were incredibly successful in the awards and have won more major accolades than any other station.

PPL

Gary, Andy,Alistair, Alice, John and Dave - Erskine 2002.While it's nice to have our work acknowledged in this way, the prize money has also allowed us to significantly improve our studio facilities. The BT Awards came to an end in 2001. The awards ceremony is now sponsored by PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd.) the UK record industry collecting society, CBBC and a number of other organisations from the entertainment industry.

Let's hope that we can continue our winning ways.

MEET THE COUNCIL

In 1998, after our second BT Station Of The Year Award, the organisation was honoured with a Civic Reception by Perth and Kinross District Council. The event took place in Perth City Chambers and was hosted by Provost John Culliven. Around 40 of our members were joined by several local councillors. The Chairman of Perth and Kinross Healthcare NHS Trust, John Mathieson - himself a former Provost of Perth was also present - as was Trust Chief Executive, Frank Brown and a number of other trust personnel.

With the Provost at the Council Chambers.
BACK IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS

On 13 January 2005 we were honoured with a second Civic Reception. We were awarded the David K Thomson Award in recognition of services to the community. The award came with a silver quaich, a framed scroll and a donation of £500.

The David K Thomson Award Trust was established in 1973 by David K Thomson (1910-1992) who was Lord Provost of Perth from 1966-1972. The purpose of the trust is to make an award or awards to any person or persons residing within the District of Perth and Kinross who has or have in the opinion of the trustees either rendered service to the community or achieved success in the sphere of sports, music, art or other recreational or cultural activity.

OUR CHAIRMAN

Our chairman, Steven Robb, joined Hospital Radio Perth in 1995 and was Station Manager for 5 years, 2 of these combined with the role of Vice Chairman. He took over as Chairman in May 2007. He is a presenter and also the co-ordinator of the station's award winning outside broadcasts. He led the group dedicated to the refurbishment of the studios in 2004/5 and brought the £40,000 project to a successful conclusion - £70 under budget!

Steven was one of three finalists in the "Volunteers" category of the Scottish Health Awards 2006. Out of hundreds of nominations of an incredibly high standard it was a great honour to reach the finals.

Although he's worked with Perth And Kinross Council Housing for 12 years, Steven's from a farming background. He was Secretary of Perth Young Farmers for 5 years and Secretary for the Perthshire District Association for 3 years.

Married with a young daughter, Steven enjoys Country music and most things non sporty!
