AWARDS WE HAVE WON

Mills And BoonTHE MILLS AND BOON AWARDS

In 1989, only a few months after Hospital Radio Perth went on air we were named the Mills and Boon Scottish Station of the Year. This award was all the more special because our listeners had to nominate us. Over a dozen patients wrote to Mills and Boon recommending our service.

THE HOSPITAL BROADCASTING AWARDS

The awards have been run by the Hospital Broadcasting Association in varying formats for many years. Hospital Radio Perth first entered in 1996 and in the years since have become the most successful participating station. The awards are open to well over 200 stations which makes our achievements all the more impressive.

MEET THE COUNCIL

In 1998, after our second BT Station Of The Year Award, the organisation was honoured with a Civic Reception by Perth and Kinross District Council. The event took place in Perth City Chambers and was hosted by Provost John Culliven. Around 40 of our members were joined by several local councillors. The Chairman of Perth and Kinross Healthcare NHS Trust, John Mathieson - himself a former Provost of Perth was also present - as was Trust Chief Executive, Frank Brown and a number of other trust personnel.

With the Provost at the Council Chambers.
BACK IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS

On 13 January 2005 we were honoured with a second Civic Reception. We were awarded the David K Thomson Award in recognition of services to the community. The award came with a silver quaich, a framed scroll and a donation of £500.

The David K Thomson Award Trust was established in 1973 by David K Thomson (1910-1992) who was Lord Provost of Perth from 1966-1972. The purpose of the trust is to make an award or awards to any person or persons residing within the District of Perth and Kinross who has or have in the opinion of the trustees either rendered service to the community or achieved success in the sphere of sports, music, art or other recreational or cultural activity.

OUR CHAIRMAN

Our chairman, Steven Robb, joined Hospital Radio Perth in 1995 and was Station Manager for 5 years, 2 of these combined with the role of Vice Chairman. He took over as Chairman in May 2007. He is a presenter and also the co-ordinator of the station's award winning outside broadcasts. He led the group dedicated to the refurbishment of the studios in 2004/5 and brought the £40,000 project to a successful conclusion - £70 under budget!

Steven was one of three finalists in the "Volunteers" category of the Scottish Health Awards 2006. Out of hundreds of nominations of an incredibly high standard it was a great honour to reach the finals.

Although he's worked with Perth And Kinross Council Housing for 14 years, Steven's from a farming background. He was Secretary of Perth Young Farmers for 5 years and Secretary for the Perthshire District Association for 3 years.

Married with two young daughters, Steven enjoys Country music and most things non sporty!

OTHER AWARDS
Our Programme Controller, John Watson was named Perth's Citizen Of The Year in 1999 and was awarded the MBE in 2002, principally in recognition of his work in Hospital Broadcasting. He has held several posts within the executive of the Hospital Broadcasting Association including being their Chief Executive for two years.
